May 08 Demo 1

A Nissan Micra was crashed at 70kph into a 114mm diameter steel traffic signal post complete with 3 aspect signal head and push button, provided by NAL Ltd. The assembly was fitted with an energised circuit and the SIS device also supplied by NAL, to demonstrate successful interruption of the supply.

May 08 Demo 2

A Renault Clio was crashed at 70kph into a standard 10m steel lighting column, complete with outreach arm and lantern, courtesy of Sign Post Solutions. This unforgiving assembly was fitted with an energised circuit and a device provided by TOFCO, to demonstrate that successful disconnection and/or interruption of the supply can be achieved and should always be used, even on unforgiving posts or columns. Note the initial impact prior to the column breaking - this likely to be when the worst injuries to vehicle occupants would be sustained.

May 08 Demo 3

A Mazda 121 was crashed at 70kph into an 8m KAPU lighting column (70:HE:3), complete with outreach arm and lantern provided by Sign Post Solutions, the UK distributor for Sahko Jokinen columns. Note the gradual deceleration permitted by the column compared to the previous demonstration with the traditional lighting column.

May 08 Demo 4

A Rover 75 was crashed at 100kph into a restraint system ramped end 'protecting' a mock-up of a concrete bridge support. This demonstration showed what little protection is offered to vehicle occupants by the ramped ends of restraint systems on high-speed roads.
