| 20.01.2012 | The Traffic Signs (amendment) (no 2) Regulations &General Directions 2011 Many changes to the Traffic Signs and General Directions 2002 are included in the forthcoming Amendment Regulations, a 128 page document. Under these, Councils will no longer need special authorisation for many signs. This includes signs to warn lorry drivers of unsuitable roads, the need for which has increased as more and more drivers rely on Satnav systems. Also now part of the Regulations, and therefore not requiring special authorisation, are signs indicating parking spaces for car club and electric vehicle charging points. There are also some new rules to assist with the layout of signs showing variable parking restrictions, which will make it much easier for these to be understood. Other changes allow for contra flow cycle lanes on one-way streets without the need for extensive engineering, and cycle route signs may also now show a time to destination instead of the distance.
